SSCC Barcode and Pallet labeling

Woolworths and their subsidiaries are now requiring all suppliers to stop direct to store shipments and move to central distribution. DC operations require suppliers to have all shipments compliant with barcode labelling. The client found themselves in exactly this situation and needed help to become compliant with SSCC pallet labels and carton labelling.

The first stage of this project was to evaluate and select the right labelling software, printing and label media requirements for this and future needs of the business. This was installed and tested to ensure number sequencing and duo SSCC label print were operating correctly.

The next stage was to determine the information needed on the label and automate the data sources to simplify printing and reduce the need for data entry. The label design was tested and sent to GS1 testing service for its verification report. Processes were documented and staff trained.

After approval, the client was able to notify Woolworths that they now comply and can start fulfilling orders to central warehousing. This project took around 25 hours of work to complete.

The client continues to supply Woolworths and are now in a much better postion to reduce their warehouse costs and time by supplying pallet orders of single items and reducing total orders despatched. The shipping off-take process can now also be linked to inventory management systems and advanced shipping notices, a future requirement of the large retail chains.
